Austin Mayor Adler just declared that Austin is now a safe sancturary city for trans and gender expansive youth and their families.
The city of Austin will officially recognize March 9 as Transgender Youth and Family Safety Day.
Mayor Adler dedicated the proclamation to 11 year old trans youth Kai Shappley, who gained recognition for her fight against transphobic legislation in the Texas Lege last year.

How hard can it be not to be so racist … And they’re going on about it on mainstream TV and see nothing wrong with it. WTF.
I mean, I have some “this is in a country that’s literally a DAY TRIP from mine” thoughts, but why would the skin colour or religion play any fucking role here?

For those who don’t know, Canada implicated a mandatory vaccine mandate for international truckers, and although 90% of truckers across the country are already vaccinated, the 10% who refuse decided to start a “freedom convoy.” It’s quickly become an alt-right circus.

We have a massive socio-political issue in Canada that not many people are even aware of (even inside the country) where thousands of white European heritage Canadians are claiming First Nations / Indigenous status. The largest one is the Qalipu, who claim to be part of the Mi’kmaq band of east coast canada, where in a matter of months, tens of thousands of non-indigenous Canadians filed to be represented by this entirely fake group. Because Canada is a wimp ass country with an idiot govt, they allow these people to get away with it- and that means Pretendians are getting govt grants, educational benefits, unregulated hunting / fishing, and other resources intended for the actual natives who need it. Worse, they sell land that is not theirs, and get money from private oil and forestry companies for “representing indigenous cooperation.”
Another thing these fakers get to do is show up to alt-right rallies and get into media opportunities that make it seem that actual indigenous people are supportive of these conservative protests (while literally chanting “tabby dabba doo” and ululating like a “s*vage”in bad 1940s western film). Pretendians are exceptionally racist and anti-indigenous white larpers who have found the greatest loophole in Canada’s system.
Adding on as someone who lives here - residents in and near downtown haven’t had a moment of peace since the truckers started arriving Friday.
There’s constant honking and yelling. People trying to get to work or buy food get harrassed for wearing masks. POC residents get racial slurs thrown at them too, as if the mask harrassment wasn’t enough. Local businesses? Many of them have had to close to protect their staff or severely restrict their hours. Rideau Centre, one of the largest malls in the city, has been closed since Saturday January 29th - which is surreal because this mall stays open on 90% of holidays. It almost never closes.
And there’s no sign of this coming to an end. There’s rumours more people will come in support of the convoy this weekend. So many residents can’t leave their homes or don’t feel safe to go out. Where’s the freedom in that?
Everyone likes to joke that Ottawa is nothing but a government town. But there’s real people living here too! There’s actual people living and working and playing here, it’s not just an empty city, void of everything except government officials. But we live here, this is our home, and it’s uninhabitable at the moment.
This trucker convoy is a white supremacist group. The only freedom they’re advocating for is their own, at the cost of everyone else. You can see that by the flags they wave and the way they treat the places they’re occupying.
I wish I could say there was something people could do to help, but. The best would probably be to spread as much as possible what’s going on. Maybe international pressure will get officials to do something, because public outcry here isn’t.
